People
Living With HIV/AIDS-Project (PLWHA)
Since June 2004 CONTACT is focusing on
involving people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) in positive
prevention and mitigation activities.
CONTACT does this through offering
a Basic Counselling Skills course to support groups of PLWHA .
The training
is fully funded by the organisation and takes place in the parts of the
city where support groups are operating. Local languages are used in
order to make all issues easily understood.
A manual is provided.
At the preparatory stage and
during training people are involved in many ways: finding a venue,
shopping, cooking etc. This in a sense enhances the ownership of the
programme. The course has become popular with support groups as more
support groups make bookings for training.
We hope our aim of preventing
and reducing transmission and reinfection by people living with HIV and
AIDS is paying dividends.
